About Ripley
Ripley, is located 20 miles South West of London, and provides a perfect mix of country living while being accessible to the excellent transport links of both Guildford and Woking. The village has a buzzing high street, with excellent walks on your doorstep.
Ripley has a wealth of history, and is believed to have dated back to the Norman times. The village was a significant stop along the London to Portsmouth road (now the A3), where The Talbot Inn served as a significant staging post for those travelling through.
Fast forward to today, and Ripley is well known for its huge sense of community. The pretty high street has a handful of gift shops, coffee shops, farm shops and a pilates studio, to name a few.
Things to do in and around Ripley
Ripley has the largest village green in England, which spans 65 acres. The village is the perfect starting point for a walk along the river, or through the stunning surrounding countryside.
There is an active sporting community in the village, including one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world Ripley Cricket Club, which has thriving adult and junior teams.
Ripley Museum is the smallest Arts Council accredited museum in the country, and is well worth a visit! Ripley Farmers Market is a vibrant market which takes place once a month on the village green, and offers fresh products from local independent producers, and attracts visitors from far and wide!
RHS Wisley is the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society, and is one of the greatest gardens of the world - Ripley is very lucky to have this on its doorstep.
Commuting from Ripley
Ripley is located just off the A3 which offers easy access to Guildford and Woking, and further afield into London. Heathrow can be reached by car in just 27 minutes and Gatwick is just 35 minutes away.
From Ripley, Woking Station can be reached within a 10 min drive, which offers fast train service to London Waterloo in just 27 minutes, and Guildford is located just 15 minutes away, where you can get to London Waterloo in just 32 minutes.
You are also a short drive from East Horsley and West Clandon, which both offer train links back to Guildford and into London.
Best schools near Ripley
Ripley Court School is a leading co-ed prep school, located just off the High Street, set in 19 acres of picturesque countryside, offering education from nursery through to year 6 (aged 11).
Within a short drive, you have a great selection of primary and secondary schools for state and independent options, including Send CofE Primary School, Clandon CofE Primary School, Cranmore School, Glenesk School, Reed's School, Howard of Effingham School, and George Abbot School, all within easy reach.
Within a 10 min drive you can reach the beautiful market town of Haslemere, offering an abundance of cafes, pubs, restaurants and boutique shops. The larger town of Godalming is only a 15 min drive from Chiddingfold – offering an additional selection of shops and restaurants/cafes.
What makes Ripley special?
For a small village, Ripley packs a good punch! With four great cafes, four pubs, three hairdressers, two farm shops and a village store with a post office, the village serves most day to day needs, with Guildford and Woking both within a 10-15 min drive.
Our favourite option for cake has to be Pinnocks Coffee House - pop in and sample one of Russell's delicious homemade sweet treats!
In the summer, the village green is the hub of the village and offers a number of community events, plus weekly junior and senior cricket matches on the village cricket pitch.
We love the Ripley bonfire night - usually the last Saturday in October - which draws a crowd from far and wide for the spectacular fireworks show.
